During April and all year long, the Hunterdon County YMCA encourages adults and organizations in the community to play a vital role in making our community a safer place for children.
The organization launched the Blue Ribbon Campaign to help people visualize how many child abuse victims there are in Lubbock. Joining Blankenship are, from left, Dale County Commissioners Frankie Wilson, Charles "Chic" Gary, Steve McKinnon and Chris Carroll.
"Wear Blue Day is a wonderful opportunity to show the impact we can all have on the families and children in our communities", said Sharon Hirsch, Prevent Child Abuse NC President and CEO.
McCracken County deputies said a local doctor's office notified the department Friday of injuries to the child that were severe enough to require hospitalization.
If one child in our community is abused, that is one too many. "The other 33 is if a child has been severely abused or if they have witnessed some type of crime", says Executive Director, Jannah Bailey. "If a child has a change in behavior, has a fear of going home". Both boys and girls suffer sexual abuse and more often than not it is from a family member or close family friend.
